We are pleased to share Culture Declares Emergency’s 2024 Annual Report, conducted by Flow Associates to assess the activity and impact as the movement continues to grow and develop.

CDE is a movement of individuals and organisations in the Cultural sector — including the arts, design and heritage sectors — declaring a climate and ecological emergency and forming local networks to take action. The report highlights key roles, challenges and areas of activity within the movement on a local level across the UK, with contribution and input from international hubs involved in the wider context of the growing global movement.

2024 has been a year of stategic shift for Culture Declares, with continued ongoing development in defining CDE UK to sit in a supportive, horrizontal relationship to the International hubs that have established. Previously, CDE was an international movement, with the UK-based co-ordinator and funding pot supporting a growing network of local and international Hubs. A revised, national definition of CDE UK acknowledges the growing activity of international hubs and helps to avoid a colonising and superior tone to CDE’s in other countries. This shift also aligns with our growing focus on place-based transformation.
