CDE is recruiting for a Digital Communications and Online Events Coordinator.

After four years, our wonderful and talented Digital Communications Coordinator is moving on to seek fresh challenges. This means we are looking for a new wonderful human to join CDE as a Digital communications/Online Events Coordinator. Details below, and audio version here.
Digital Communication and Online Events Coordinator
Job Role: Creating, coordinating and disseminating content for CDE’s website, social media platforms and monthly newsletter and coordinating a diary of online events (a maximum of one per month)
Start Date and Duration: January 2025 x 6 months (with some handover dates in December 2024), with the possibility to extend the contract beyond June
Fee: £1012 per calendar month (freelance position)
Part-time, 12 hours per week
About CDE: Culture Declares Emergency (CDE) is a growing global community of arts and Culture champions declaring climate and ecological emergencies. In the face of the unfolding Earth crisis, we seek truth-telling, justice, change-making, and care in our communities.
We are organised globally around place-based Hubs. There are around twelve regional Hubs in the UK. CDE UK is currently in a transition period as it registers as a Community Interest Company (CIC). CDE UK CIC aims to act as an ally and pillar for the global movement.
About the Role: The Digital Comms and Online Events coordinator will lead the delivery of an interim Digital Comms Strategy to support the current developmental phase of CDE UK. This will include daily activity management and content development on the core social media channels to drive engagement and declarations, build an audience and increase web traffic. In collaboration with CDE coordinators, the post holder will update CDE’s website and lead the production of the monthly newsletter. In addition, they will be responsible for coordinating a monthly online event with the support of the CDE coordinators.
Tasks will include:
- Creating and scheduling regular original posts on Instagram, LinkedIn, and Facebook and updating YouTube with recordings of online events. We are considering developing a presence on other platforms (Threads, Blue Sky, etc.).
- Identifying and posting content from the CDE community across the platforms
- Collating assets for all social media posts, including copy and imagery
- Sourcing stories of action from the CDE network to share on the website, newsletters and social media
- Coordinating and collating content for monthly newsletters
- Collaborating on comms with allies and contributing to the wider political, social and cultural conversations online within the cultural and environmental movement
- Tracking impact through analytics and case studies and preparing reports for funders.
In addition, the post holder will work with coordinators to produce and advertise a monthly online event, alternating as:
- The Declarer Breakfasts – an informal space for individual Declarers and representatives of Declarer Organisations to meet, network, learn and inspire, which includes a briefing and welcome for new declarers
- The Offer – an online interactive presentation or creative event open to curation by our declaring community.
Tasks for this element will include:
- Agree on monthly themes, times and dates and liaise with contributors
- Collate copy and online registration
- Advertise to CDE’s communities and upload videos to YouTube
Person specification:
- Demonstrable experience in digital communications and social media management
- Experience in writing and editing copy for social media, website and newsletter
- Experience in using design and editing tools e.g. Canva, Adobe CC and experience in simple video editing (if you don’t have experience using all these tools, then a willingness to learn will do)
- Experience in using WordPress CMS or similar website editing tools
- A good eye, visual sensibility and some design and editing skills
- Knowledge of both environmental and cultural sectors and interest in the role of arts, heritage and design in addressing the Earth crisis
- Self-organising balanced with the ability to collaborate and a ‘can-do’ approach
