Declaration
As a peripatetic initiative, Sluice characterise ourselves as focused on the local within a global framework. One node connecting other disparate nodes. Not only is travel integral to Sluices’ activities, encouraging other projects to participate internationally is a vital part of our mission.
This raises ethical questions regarding environmental impact. We are of the stance that we will travel anywhere in order to foster connections and nurture creativity. With this, carbon footprint should be considered and any actions taken to mitigate harmful behaviour.
In alignment with this commitment, for Sluice 2024, projects participating without air or car travel will see 10% of their participation fees donated to Culture Declares Emergency. This is intended as an incentive to consider alternative modes of travel, without penalising those for whom this is impossible.
