Scarborough Museums and Galleries

We are a regional museum service. We operate three venues in Scarborough: the Rotunda museum; Scarborough Art Gallery; and Woodend. We manage on behalf of North Yorkshire Council a collection of historic objects and we have an extensive schools learning programme that accompanies a wider programme of activities that support our vision and values.
Declaration
We already have a commitment to environmental responsibility and this is one of our strategic priorities. We have a collection of objects that can offer scientific evidence of climate change and the impact that has on biodiversity. We are keen to share stories of how our environment has changed using evidence from our collection. Declaring is part of this process and we have already begun to take a position on this, both locally - through a commitment to engage local communities in environmental awareness and our decision not to renew any funding through oil, for example; and globally, through relationship-building with activists in other parts of the world, such as Congo. We are planning an assembly, organised by our communities, to help us determine what actions they would like us to take as part of this process.
