April Newsletter and Earth Day

22nd April 2020 is the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day – a particularly poignant anniversary year which we are forced to mark in physical isolation – but without dampened spirits we are able to come together through our digital communities!

We are delighted to announce: ‘Letters of Love in a Time of Crisis’ brought to us by the wonderful Letters to The Earth team – more details here.

They will be premiering short videos of #LetterstotheEarth ‘Letters of Love in a Time of Crisis’. A global community will read 50+ letters at regular intervals on 22 April 09:00 | 12:00 | 15:00 | 18:00 | 21:00

Readers include actors Alison Steadman, Noma Dumezweni and Ken Nwosu, philosopher Rupert Read and poet of the now viral poem, ‘And the People Stayed at Home’, Kitty O’Meara.

Watch live and replay via Culture Declares Facebook and YouTube – and check out the trailer here.

In addition LTTE invite you to take a moment to write your Letter to the Earth. What do you want to say? What needs to be heard? Write for yourself, for others and for the Earth – letters of love, support and hope.

These letters are for you to keep, to give and send (safely), to put up in your window for others to read and to share on social media via #LetterstotheEarth @CultureDeclares on Earth Day.

At 10pm all the way to 1am join the Nest Collective, Music and Culture Declares in a special Earth Day Launch of Singing with Nightingales – At Home.

Hosted by Sam Lee, this audio broadcast, live on YouTube will take you on a journey into the woods of Sussex to hear the unforgettable song of the nightingale.

They will be linking up with special guest musicians in their own homes including Cosmo Sheldrake • Isobel Waller-Bridge • Bernard Butler • Seth Lakeman • Nick Mulvey • Julie Fowlis • Johnny Flynn • Jessie Buckley •  John Smith • Jocelyn Pook • Sara Nicolls with written and spoken contributions from: Chris Packham • Robert MacFarlane • Jay Griffiths • Gavin Turk • Lily Cole • Simon McBurney • Matthew Bannister • Simon Armitage • Farhana Yarmin • Ed Gillespie
