Join CDE South West at the Watershed in Bristol to explore how you might describe your complex, often devastating feelings about climate and ecological breakdown. How can we find a way to write in a more generative and forgiving space that doesn’t deny today’s difficult realities?

Liz Jensen, a novelist and activist whose new memoir charts her own personal and ecological grief, believes in writing as therapy and liberation. Join her for a hands-on writing workshop exploring the forms that grief can take and how writing might help you discover the gift hidden in a box of darkness.

Liz Jensen is the author of eight novels, including the eco-thrillers The Rapture and The Uninvited. Her latest work, Your Wild and Precious Life, explores loss, legacy, hope and resilience in an era of climate and ecological emergency.

Liz is a founder member of Extinction Rebellion’s Writers Rebel, a literary movement using words and actions to highlight the Earth crisis. In 2023, she launched The Rebel Library, a resource for readers of climate and ecological literature in all genres.

Liz lives in Copenhagen and teaches creative writing in the UK and Denmark. She volunteers on the grief helpline run by the Danish National Grief Centre.

🏭 We are grateful to Bristol’s Pervasive Media Studio for hosting us in their event space upstairs at the Watershed. The venue is fully accessible, with a comfortable cafe and plenty of toilets.

💚 Culture Declares Emergency is organising this workshop. We are a community of individuals and organisations working in arts, culture and heritage who have Declared a climate and ecological emergency. Declarers, like the Watershed, are working towards creating a just and regenerative future for all – Join us!
