Reimagine the City: CDE in Norwich

Norfolk’s Healthy Environment Day, June 2023 – Climate Museum UK consulting people about the future of their City

Culture Declares East is trying out an approach of starting up more local groups under the Eastern umbrella. We are planning two assembly events, one in Norwich and one in Colchester. These events might lead to further local meetings or activities. Hopefully, this could inspire more to bud and blossom across the region.

Here is more about what’s happening in Norwich.

Reimagine the City: Creative visions to provide for the needs of all in Norwich within the planet’s limits

Sunday 5th May, 2024, 2.00 – 5.00

Generously hosted by Norwich Theatre Stage Two  (in Studio One, which is an accessible venue)

This lively workshop – or creative assembly – led by artists invites people from across the social, environmental and cultural sectors to generate ideas for how we can learn, work, eat and be well in the future. Bringing the key principle of Doughnut Economics – building a social foundation for everyone in ways that don’t harm the environment – there will be four imagination stations each led by a local artist or creative organisation. Participants can rotate around them to reimagine…

– How we can learn and develop capacities for resilience when younger people are anxious about the future of the planet

– How we can create opportunities for work and revive our high streets when environmental conditions and inequalities affect the economy

– How we can source, produce and consume food, with rising food insecurity

– How we can improve physical and mental health outcomes, in an uncertain climate and polluted environment?

We will then pool all the ideas – including for other sectors – into a future Doughnut portrait of Norwich.

Arts groups include Climate Museum UK, Hocus Pocus Theatre and Edible East.

This is a collaboration between Culture Declares East and an emerging Norwich Doughnut Group. We will also share a new film that will celebrate Culture Declares’ 5 years of existence in April 2024.

Please use this simple form to book if you are in or near Norwich.

You don’t have to be a declarer with CDE already, or from the cultural sector.
