Becca McCray

Declaration

Beccy McCray explores playful, socially engaged art and design using an interdisciplinary approach that includes intervention, installation, participation, print, paint or whatever media necessary to create imaginative acts of resistance and more human moments in the world. Seeking to break down boundaries between art, activism and everyday life, Beccy ultimately aims to spread joy and inspire positive change at grass roots level, using creativity to raise awareness of environmental issues and the social ideals that go hand in hand with sustainable and happy lives. Beccy also works under the name Crafternoon Tea Club, a collective which explores participatory and community art, combined with activism and DIY craft-based tradition that can take any form; from games, happenings and installation, to collage, baking, parties and painting - or just being nice to people. Crafternoon Tea Club acts as both curator and collaborator; creating frameworks within which unexpected situations can occur. It aims to blur the line between artist and audience, bringing people together through the sharing of materials and ideas, using collective powers for the greater good, creating a positive vision of a more sustainable and socially just future - and having a good time while we do it : ) Beccy has worked with many diverse groups, from those with complex needs and dementia sufferers, to the elderly, young people and moradores da favela during her residency in Brazil. Her work has been commissioned by organisations such as Saatchi Art, Dulwich Picture Gallery, The Barbican, Jerwood Gallery, National Theatre, The Olympic Park Legacy Company, The De La Warr Pavilion, Home Live Art, Create London, Arts Council England, Secret Garden Party, Bestival and the ONCA Gallery for Arts and Ecology. Her projects have been featured in publications and platforms such as The Guardian, It’s Nice That, Supermarket Sarah, Frankie, Interview, Oh Comely, IdN, Amelia’s Magazine, Grazia, AnOther, Trend Hunter, BBC and The Independent. Alongside this Beccy is an Executive Creative Producer for moving image and interactive art working with organisations such as the Tate, Palais des Beaux Arts, The British Fashion Council and The Creators Project. Her projects have won prestigious awards such as the Prix Ars Electronica's highest prize, the 'Golden Nica'. She is also an artist educator and regular guest lecturer & consultant for institutions such as the University for the Creative Arts and The London College of Communication. "Beccy McCray is an inventive, colourful, fearless craftivist"
