The Offer: From Roots to the Front Line
The Offer
From Roots to the Front Line
“As the session unfolds, of your knowing and your unknowing, of the underbelly of a movement, that fights for the planet, but not for all its human inhabitants equally.”
Zena Edwards
Revisit The Offer from June 2021 – From Roots To The Front Line – curated and hosted by the poetic presence of Zena Edwards – an event which sign-posted how many solutions to the ecological crisis have ancient roots in ritual and embodiment and reflect upon the malalignment of cultural technologies and Ancestral wisdoms of particular ex-colonies in the global south.
We heard from guest speakers including AHHAAHHA, Abdul Shyllon, Adriene Jenik, Ffion Campbell-Davies, Ian Solomon-Kawall and Serayna Solanki through ideas, spoken word, music, performances and conversation.
After 500 years of oppressive, non-reciprocal colonial extractivism still practiced by the global north, we questioned whose emergency we speak of in 2021 and confronted the privilege underpinning practices of exclusion in the climate and environmental justice movement.
This Offer was Culture Declares Emergency’s third convening to spotlight distracting and erasing perceptions of what a climate/environmental activist looks like, and asserting decolonisation practice through connectivity, art and future thinking
